Lanzarote is varied island with an area for all tastes.

Puerto del Carmen - the heart and soul of the island

The main beach and strip in Puerto del carmen

About Puerto del Carmen

Is the longest established - and probably best known - resort on the island. Puerto del Carmen has everything from beachside arcades to Casinos and some of the most impressive luxury private villas in Lanzarote. Nestled on the coast in the southern central part of the island, it is only a 10 minute drive from Arrecife Airport and is a convenient place from which to explore Lanzarote’s tourist and cultural attractions.

Although the resort has grown over the last twenty years — it now stretches along the whole 6 kilometres of golden sandy beaches — the town has been saved from the high-rise buildings, thanks to Caesar Marique, that blight so many other destinations due to the strict planning restrictions.

Yazia - the prettiest village on the island

Yazia, the prettiest village on the island

About Yaiza

It’s little short of a miracle that tourists are even able to visit Yaiza’s pretty, plant-filled streets and squares. By rights, this beautiful small town of some 3,500 inhabitants should be lying petrified under streams of lava after the volcanic activity back in the 1700’s. The same Volcanoes that once threatened this village, now pose as the most stunning back drop. Colourful planting has created an eye catching contrast to this backdrop, and this combination has resulted in Yaiza winning the coveted title of prettiest village in Spain, not once but twice over recent years.

Residents regard Yaiza as ‘The Capital of The South’ — due largely to the fact that the town is the administrative centre of the wider municipality of Yaiza, one of the biggest departments on the island encompassing important sites such as the Timanfaya National Park and the resort of Playa Blanca to the south. But don’t expect a throbbing metropolis. Yaiza remains more of a lightly pulsating pueblo — which is lucky for anyone in search of the more authentic and traditional Lanzarote. Yaiza has some fantastic tapas restaurants and little bars to visit then after why not spend the afternoon taking in one of the local galleries.

Puerto Calero - the millionaires marina

About  Puerto Calero

Otherwise known as the millionaires marina is only a few kilometres in distance from the bustling resort of Puerto del Carmen, but a world away in style and atmosphere. Home to some of the finest Lanzarote villas and hotels, as well as a good selection of bars and restaurants.

The neighbouring island of Fuerteventura and the mountain range around the coast line provide stunning views from this location. The way Puerto Calero is situated it is also protected from northerly winds and strong waves rolling in from the atlantic.

Puerto Calero did not exist until it was dreamed up by the developer José Calero as an exclusive retreat to provide a luxury marina, residential development and designer shops for the island of Lanzarote.

Uga - the gateway to wine country

About Uga

Located at the southern entrance to the valley of La Geria is the small, fertile wine village of Uga. With low, white houses, palm trees and other greenery, it has an appealing, almost North African charm. The highest building of this village is its rather modern church with an open belfry.

Uga’s North African aspect is accentuated by the many camels, which can often be seen walking along the path through the lava fields to the Camel Park. Dromedaries are bred here and are used for carrying tourists around the outer reaches of the Timanfaya National Park and for safari tours in other places of the island.

Uga is very traditional Lanzarote and a stunning and tranquil part of the island. Its nearby, easily accessible towns are Puerto del Carmen, Tias and Playa Blanca.

Macher - tranquility and great food

About Macher

Macher is a beautiful tiny hamlet situated approximately 14km from the main capital of Arrecife.  It is only 4km from the stunning Puerto Calero, known as the millionaires Marina, and the same distance from one of the islands most popular resorts, Puerto Del Carmen.

Macher is a very tranquil area and mainly residential. It is pretty much undiscovered by most major tour operators therefore most of the visitors either have holiday homes here or are renting similar properties.

The views from Macher of the sea, national park and the sister island of Fuerteventura are breath taking and truly something to be marvelled at.

For your convenience Macher has a large Eurospar and is home to some of the best restaurants on the island. All of this is definitely a recipe for the perfect relaxing holiday.
